The Austrian Federal Ministry of Work, Society and Consumer Protection invited the following two representatives from non-governmental organizations to Saratov, Russia for the 14th Convention of Bilateral Teams Regarding Social Issues.
Mr. Gerhard Meschnigg represented "White Ribbon Austria". In his speech he emphasized the importance of male individuals taking action to end men's violence against women, in order to put an end to the violence.
Ms. Raina Ruschmann from "samara – Initiative Prevention of Sexual Assault and Violence" representing "WAVE – Women against Violence Europe" described the "Austrian Signpost Law" which yields the police and court the power to remove violent men (and when applicable violent women) from their home.
This had led to a change in the mindset of the Austrian society.
Around the conference we surveyed different community establishments, including children's' homes in Saratov.
We would like to thank Ms. Maria Roesslhumer, "WAVE", and Ms. Edeltraud Glettler, Director of Section V: "European, International, and Social-Political Questions of Principle", and Mr. Harald Fugger, Vice Chairman of the "Department for Bilateral Relations and International Organizations" for extending the invitation and fostering an outstanding work atmosphere.
Both professionals work in the Austrian Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection.
